With a population of 18,000, Converse is located 15 miles northeast of downtown San Antonio. It is bordered by the cities of Live Oak and Universal City to the north, and Schertz to the southeast. The Charles W. Anderson Loop separates Converse from Randolph Air Force Base on the east side, making this city home to many military families who love the proximity to the base.
Converse is a wonderful town and recently celebrated its 50th anniversary as an incorporated city. It is one of the best family-oriented communities in the northeast metro area and has enjoyed rapid growth, including a 58 percent growth in populations since the 2000 census. Due to the growth, a new high school, Judson High School, was built and opened in 2010.
The town houses a number of organizations including an animal shelter, a youth sports league, and senior citizens’ organizations. It also hosts some popular events each year. The Night in Old Converse has been going strong since 1974, and the second Saturday Art Festival is celebrated each month n the heart of downtown. There are also very popular Christmas events hosted every year.
